Stakeholders can be defined as an individual or group of individuals, who are influenced or able to influence a project (Liang et al, 2017). Stakeholders are essential as they give a project both financial and practical support. These stakeholders usually have a significant gain or interest when the project is completed and successful. The stakeholders in the day-care centre project include; teaching and non-teaching staff at the university (parents), the owners and directors of the university, the facility management, the local government and childcare givers. It is crucial to consider the needs and expectations of the stakeholders in any project. It is necessary to allow the stakeholders to express their needs, views and expectations in an appropriate forum (Takim, 2009).

            Memorial Hospitals is a primary public hospital in its state location. It provides specialised and tertiary services to its patients with more than four thousand employees. The organization has decided to build and operate a day-care facility for the children of its staff.  The different individuals or groups of stakeholders all have their own expectations from the construction of the day-care facility.(Need help with your assignment, order custom essay paper)

Stakeholder Expectations

            Firstly, the key stakeholder expectation is for the day-care centre to be built at the organization. The teachers and other staff expect to have a day-care where they can have their children during working hours so that they can focus on their jobs. Secondly, the stakeholders expect that the daycare will manage their children effectively. This requires that the day-care should have trained caregivers, adequate resources and for a requisite procedure to be followed. Thirdly, the stakeholders expect that the day-care will greatly help to convenience its employees as well as raise their level of morale. This is by providing a day-care centre that is cost-friendly to the employees since childcare is quite expensive. With prices on the rise, families have to spend ever-larger shares of their income on childcare (Thomas & Gory, 2015). Fourthly, the stakeholders expect that the process to implement the project will follow all the required laws and regulations. For instance, the local government expects that the proper authorisation procedures such as permit acquisition will be followed without any violations. It is also expected that the facility will pay its taxes lawfully. Fifthly, the owners and directors of the university expect that the day-care centre will make a profit and earn some extra income which can be used to improve the services offered at the hospital.

Data Collection

            It is crucial to gather data to monitor the performance of the day-care facility towards fulfilling the above stakeholder expectations. A check-sheet can be used as the data is collected in real-time at the location in which it is generated. The check-sheet can be used to gather data on the day to day performance of the day-care. The collected data can then be analyzed to determine whether the stakeholder expectations are being met. For instance, the check-sheet below can be used on a daily basis;

Day ParametersStatusComments
1Availability of day-care Monday-FridayYes
2Charges per day/week/monthFair/Unfair
3Complaints from parentsDetails of complaint, if any
4Availability of resources e.g. first aid kitYes/No
5Profit incurredHigh/Medium/Low

Data can be gathered by acquiring feedback from the relevant stakeholders on their observations regarding the performance of the day-care. These observations can be done on a daily basis so as to identify a pattern in progress or problems. The comments section in the check-sheet can help provide insights on how the day-care is performing. Stakeholders can give their remarks on the current performance and whether their expectations are being met or not. In regards to the profits incurred, a sales report can also be used to gather useful data on how the facility is performing.

Conclusion

            Identifying and understanding the needs and expectations of stakeholders is essential for the success of any project. The stakeholders of the day-care project have expectations that the project will have significant benefits in their lives. After identifying the stakeholder expectations, it is crucial to ensure that these expectations are being met by gathering data to monitor the performance of the project.
